Surprise!

Ryan Succop planted, and kicked. The ball left his foot, going up,up,up... Kind of how Kansas City's season has been going so far. The kicker put it through the up-rights, giving his team a victory over maybe the best 0-7 team ever in Buffalo, who almost beat Baltimore, maybe the best team in the NFL, the week before. The Chiefs are now 5-2, and even though a 13-10 win against a team that hasn't won a game doesn't seem too impressive, it's all about getting the "W" if your KC.
The Chiefs have surprised the whole NFL this season, led by a run game that has carried most of the load. Thomas Jones is on pace for over 1,000 yards rushing and has 4.6 yards a carry. The only thing is, he's not the number one option. Jamaal Charles, after rushing for 177 yards on just 22 carries, is flashing an incredible 6.5 yards a carry to bring his total rushing numbers to 666 for the season. That running game is scarier than anything on Halloween.
Last year was a tough one for Kansas City, to say the least. In his first season as the Chiefs quarterback, Matt Cassel had it rough. This year he hasn't had to do near as much with the elite run-game, but has still thrown ten touchdowns compared to only 3 interceptions. He's not really what you would call a big-time QB, but he's also not just a game-manager, even if his role has become more reserved since he came over from New England.
The Cheifs have Oakland this week, and with the Raiders playing like a completely different team the last two weeks, it will be a true test for KC. They will also have match-ups against the Titans, Seahawks, and another with Oakland in their future. With the AFC west the way it is, there's a clear chance for Kansas City to take the division, even if they only win 9 games. With this all said, it's all looking up for Kansas City so far this season, and I think that will continue enough the rest of the year to get them a spot in the playoffs.
