Slowly, but Surely

September 18th 2010 23:49
I use to have my eyes glued to the field, watching every play of Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin, Brandon Spikes, and the rest of the Florida Gators football. Now, half the time, I can barely peak through my fingers, like it's a teenage girl trying to watch "Saw". The first game I would grade as a "D". 2nd: C-. And now the third: C. At that rate, they still won't be any kind of match for Alabama, who made Duke look so bad that they didn't even air the 4th quarter because the Tide were putting up so much on the scoreboard that it could've kept up with coach K's basketball national champions at Duke.

The Gators were on a bit of upset alert for Saturday, and when the Vols went up 3-0, the hope only grew more for the Tennessee faithful. Florida once again made enough timely "spark-plug" plays, such as a fake punt that led to a touchdown, and Tennesee made enough mistakes, including the interceptions QB Matt Simms threw and other passes he missed on, that Florida was able to hold them off and stay un-defeated. It's 3-0, but not the way any one could have imagined.

Against Miami of Ohio, they were pathetic, and won because the Redhawks kept kicking themselves. Against South Florida, they were inconsistent but once again got lucky. This game was partially earned, and I still believe Florida is a top 20 team, but once again, Florida isn't overly impressing any one, and they could continue to fall in the AP poll. The Gators have enough pure talent to dispose of Kentucky next as they have with the first three games, but then they have Alabama. I'd have to be hammered for me to say I'm not worried or thinking ahead to the meeting in Tuscaloosa. Hopefully the Gators aren't looking to far ahead.

So as Bama looks as strong as ever and Ryan Mallet and Arkansas get a big win to boost their offense, the Gators still looked a bit out of sync and didn't have the great offensive rythm they were known for the past few years. It was good to win a rivalry game, even if it was a "second-tier" game this year, but there is still a lot of work to be done if your a Florida Gator.
