For Real?

This is sort of an NFC version of my last post, which was about the Kansas City Chiefs and their surprising start to this season. In this blog we talk about the Bucs, who have come out of nowhere to be 5-2 and tied for the best record in the NFC. A resilient group with plenty of youth, the Bucs are finding ways to win games, and as their coach Raheem Morris has preached and preached, it's all about just getting the "W".
This week the Bucs survived a second-half collapse to beat Arizona in a 38-35 shoot-out in Tempe. The Bucs are now tied atop the NFC south as they travel for a true road test against Atlanta, the team Bucs are tied with in the south. Many are saying that Atlanta may be the best-looking team in the NFC so far this season, and the Falcons, thanks to a bye, have two weeks to prepare for their encounter with the Bucs. Overall though, the Bucs have yet to go into a rough stretch in their schedule, and it looks to remain that way. In their last 9 games of this season, the Bucs will play teams with a combined .500 record. That would seem to favor the Bucs very well. After the game in Atlanta, the Bucs follow with a game against celler-dweller Carolina.
Not too many people are talking about the Bucs, and here's why. They're low in most offensive and defensive catagories, and the only strong competition they've played is New Orleans and Pittsburgh. Let's just say those were contests that didn't go so smooth for the Bucs, a couple of pure blowouts. They beat a once-considered average team in the Bengals, and two record-wise average teams in the Rams and Cardinals. But they have the Saints, two with the Falcons, and also have the honor of playing the Ravens in Baltimore.
Even with the doubt swirling from the media world, there's all the confidence in the world inside the locker room. coach Morris has taken heat for his remarks that Tampa Bay was the best team in the NFC, clear motivation for the Falcons. With the Bucs finally having a decent run-game with LaGarette Blount, and Josh Freeman begining to mold into a franchise QB, everything is looking up for Tampa. Playoffs or not, who would of even thought they'd win this many games? Besides the players and coaches that is. Morris' quest for 10 wins is half way through. They thought he was insain when he first said that, but why not think big?
