Despicable

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will plead to commissioner Roger Goodell today to have his current suspension by the league reduced. Currently, Roethlisberger’s suspension is for six games, and is looking for it to be brought down to three or four games. Roethlisberger was, as most know, suspended by the league for being accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old college student in Georgia in March, though he was never charged by prosecutors.
It looks as if Goodell set a bar (no, not that kind of bar) for Roethlisberger to be at in order to cut two games from his suspension, and it looks as if Roethlisberger has met his criteria. Some still think that Big Ben should remain suspended for the full time originally givin to him by the league. One of which is four-time Super Bowl winning, and former Steeler, Terry Bradshaw. Take it away Terry. “Going to bars-treating women like that; oh my God. I pray they don’t cut (his suspension) to four games. I hope they leave it at six. There is no excuse for that. The egos get out of hand.” Now if your Roethlisberger, you could take these comments by Bradshaw in two different ways. You could look at him as a guy who won four Super Bowls and who’s leadership makes him a good mentor, or you could look at it like, well, it’s coming from a guy who just had a great defense all those years and has been married and divorced three times. I don’t think Ben cares either way, he just wants to play, sling it around, and get dirty…. but not just on the football field, that’s the problem.
Look at other QB’s in the league. Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees. The elite. What’s one thing they have in common? They stay out of trouble. Peyton has fun at a concert or whatever in the off-season, without getting to rowdy. Drew is the life of New Orleans, but he’s not constantly drunk on Bourbon street. Tom, well Tom has a Victoria Secret Angel, so he obviously doesn’t need 20-year-old college students from out in the middle of Nowhere, Georgia. But back to my point; you know what else these guys have all in common besides discipline? Leadership. It’s hard to believe that Ben has won two Super Bowls and both Manning and Brees have only won one a piece. I think on the gridiron, none of these outside conflicts bother Roethlisberger. He is a leader on the field. Off it is a different story, but he continues to lay at the same level. Maybe Tiger should of taken a page or two from his book. But in all seriousness, (like I’m ever serious) he can’t just be “the man” on the field. Because if not, you see that off-field issues come back to bite you for on-field things. And that’s why, since this isn’t the first time Big Ben has got in trouble off the field, Goodell should keep the suspension at six games.
Goodell will go to New York to meet today with Ben and others, including team president Arthur Rooney II. How would you feel if you were Rooney. Deep inside he wants what’s best for his team, and probably thinks Ben should be suspended the full length. But he’ll support him anyway.
What happened to the kid from the small town of Lima, Ohio, who didn’t get any big offers, but was able to play division one ball at Miami (Ohio). He went pro and got all kinds of money. That’s where it all starts for some athletes. So go ahead NFL, cut his suspension in half or two games, but what will you say when you see him in a bar doin the same crap again… That’s just “Ben being Ben”. and I’ll just quote Eminem’s line in his freestyle “Despicable”. “I’d rather turn this club into a bar room brawl, get rowdy as Roethlisberger in a bathroom stall…”
