Coming Full Circle

When the Washington Redskins picked up Donovan McNabb for the 2010 season, there was plenty of reason to cheer in the nation's capital. After all, the 'Skins had just added a 6-time pro bowler, who was considered the best QB in Eagles history. Fast-forward to week eight of McNabb's first season in D.C. Playing against the lowly Detroit Lions, McNabb has a below-average game, and with less than two minutes left and his team down by 6, you would have thought it would have been time for the man that has played in five NFC championships to try and work his magic and lead his team to victory. But as we all know, unless you've been living under a rock, McNabb was benched by coach Mike Shanahan for what the coach first said was a knowledge of a two-minute drill, only to say it was a "in shape" issue the day after. Following the bye week though, it seems the see-saw is still in full effect.
McNabb was rewarded, if you want to use that term, with a new extension worth $78 million over 5 years. 40 million of it is reportedly guaranteed. oh, how so much can change with a bye week. If McNabb were to play out, or live out (I'm just kidding), he would be nearing 40 years-old. Makes me want to ask: was this the Redskins way of saying they were sorry. I can see it now... "Listen, just give me forty mil, and I'll forget any of this ever happened." The deal could be worth as much as $88 million if Mc"Nabbin all the doh" were to play up to all the extra incentives. If I remember right, Donovan has only played one full season since 2003. I guess it's really nothing new for the Redskins and Dan Snyder, just throwing around money without blinking. And a lot of times they've done that, it hasn't seemed to work (a la Albert Haynesworth).
The Redskins face-off against McNabb's former crew for Monday Night Football tonight. The Eagles have had success with Michael Vick at QB this season, and Kevin Kolb too for that matter. With all the parity in the league, (if you watched the Giants-Cowboys game you know what I mean) there's no telling what we might see tonight. Maybe Rex Grossman...or maybe not. But I know one thing you'll see for sure if you watch, and that's an over-paid quarterback. I guess by now you can tell I'm not talking about Vick.
